I thought I was to young for skin cancer!!

by Dawn
(Gatesville, tx)

It's been two weeks since my surgery.. Things happened so fast, that I really didn't have the time to think about anything.

I was in shock, and some part of me thinks, I still have not come to the reality of things yet.

I had a spot on my nose, kinda like a mole, that every time I touched it, it would bleed.. It started out very small.

I actually thought it was a pimple that just didn't want to heal.

When it started bleeding, I decided to go to my family doctor, who brought in a surgeon to look at my nose.

The surgeon suspected cancer from the beginning, and the next week I was in surgery. That tiny spot ended up being a 1cm/in diameter hole, in which the doctor had to use a flap method to close, meaning instead of a tiny little scar, I have a good size one down the length of my nose ...and then some.

As I sit back and think about it, I realize that, I knew all along, but I didn't want to believe I could ever have any type of cancer, I'm to young. I'm 42, and in just a few short weeks, I have grown up.

If only I would of been smarter, I wouldn't have this scar down one side of my nose.

My next appointment date is with the dermatologist, to check all the moles on my back..

There will be no more waiting! I hope this helps someone...

Hi! My name is Nick and I’m 56 yrs. old and this is part of my story. Let me tell you, I was like a lot of people out there and I had no idea that skin cancer was anything bad. I had Basal cell back in 2007, but that was no big deal and it was removed and that was the end of that. No one told me that it was a type of skin cancer (I looked it up on my computer). But still no big deal, it would not kill me.
But I did know the word "Melanoma"....." --by Nick

Bottom Line
The Weather Channel has done well posting this information and photos to help you spot skin cancer, including melanoma.
It can be hard to spot, even for a professional.
The bottom line is to get an expert's opinion about any suspicious mole or lesion on your skin. If necessary, get a second opinion  and/or request a biopsy. it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t put your very life at risk!
