Using a beach umbrella helps protect against overexposure to the sun.

Grill Umbrella

I started using a beach umbrella about 4 years ago when my wife opened up a small Taqueria in Nashville.

It was actually a small mobile concession stand so I needed a few beach umbrellas around.

Almost daily I had to be outside grilling beef on a barbeque, directly in the sun, sometimes up to six hours. Beach Umbrella This was more sun exposure than I needed, especially for me, having had squamous cell skin cancer before, and heavy radiation treatments in my neck and jaw area.

I never want that to come back.

So I bought some beach umbrellas and put one up over my barbeque and another one for our customers.

I also use a wide brimmed straw hat and put on some good natural sunscreen when I need it.

Enjoy the sun; don’t be afraid of it.

Whether you’re going to the beach, the lake or you’re having an outside barbeque, have fun! Just be sure to think of sun shelters and beach tents.

My family loves camping trips, canoeing and outdoor activities. They’re fun things to do.

Yes, think about sun safety and protection from overexposure to the suns ultraviolet rays , but really ...relax, enjoy it.

Moderation

Moderation is always the key. Does anybody remember hearing on the news that a man died from drinking too much water? (Fox News, Jan. 31, 2008)

And do you also know that underexposure to the sun and a lack of vitamin D can actually put you at risk for skin cancer?

If you want to live life to the fullest, use moderation and live a balanced lifestyle.

There are sun shelters and beach tents that you can use to relax or maybe spend a little time reading without being blistering red at the end of the day.

When you see your skin turning a light pink, and I mean light pink, then you know that’s enough.

It’s a good idea to keep a few umbrellas around, even for use at your home barbeque, as well as going to the beach.

Don’t get caught at the beach already and then realize you don’t have any kind of sun shelter.

You’ll spend time running around to the stores to find out beach umbrellas are sold out or much more expensive.

Be aware of the risk factors of skin cancer and do regular self exams.

Be sure to see your doctor at least once a year.
